Tax Document Availability

Your tax documents are available in mid-February following each year you have sold stock or received at least $10 in dividends. You won’t receive a tax document if you only purchased stock.

Ex: If you sold stocks or received at least $10 in dividends in 2016, your tax documents would be available in mid-February of 2017.

We pass along a consolidated 1099 generated by our clearing partner, which includes information found on the 1099-DIV and 1099-B. If you aren’t sure how to file a consolidated 1099 or want a different form, then we recommend speaking to a tax advisor.

How To Access Tax Documents

You can view and export your tax docs in the Robinhood app when they become available in February. Simply go to the account menu, tap Account, and tap Tax Documents. We don’t yet have a way to view your tax documents on our website.

In the iOS app, you will be able to export your tax forms by

  • Going to your Account Menu
  • Tap on Account
  • Tap Tax Documents
  • Tap on Export on the top right of the screen
  • Select the Generic Mail to get your 1099 in a PDF

In the Android app, you will be able to export your tax forms by:

  • Going to your Account Menu
  • Tap on Account
  • Tap on Tax Documents
  • Tap on Send File on the top right of the screen
  • Select your email to get your 1099 in a PDF

In addition, we recommend that you download Google PDF Viewer for Android here for opening documents downloaded from the Robinhood Android App.

On iOS:                                                               On Android:

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a feature in which you can export your tax document in a file other than PDF or receive them by mail. If you would like a hard copy, you can download or export the PDF from within the app and print them from your computer.

TurboTax & Robinhood

Robinhood customers may choose to use TurboTax Premier to easily import trade history when filing taxes. In TurboTax, when prompted to “Choose your bank or brokerage,” enter “Robinhood” in the search field. TurboTax will ask for your account number, which can be found in the Tax Documents section of the Robinhood app. Please add "10-" before the first 8 digits of your account number (10-5XX12345). Do not include hyphens in your SSN.

We’re pleased to offer a discount of up to $15 off TurboTax. If you're looking to begin filing directly from your Robinhood app, go to your account menu, select "Account," then scroll to the bottom of the page and tap "Tax Documents." You can then tap the button "CLAIM YOUR DISCOUNT," and you'll be linked to the TurboTax landing page.

You may experience difficulty uploading your Robinhood financial transaction history into TurboTax if you made close to 500 transactions in 2016. According to Intuit, "TurboTax Online can handle up to 500 transactions per brokerage account. However, online performance may deteriorate as you get close to this limit.” For more information about this, or if you made more than 500 stock transactions, please see their instructions here.

Tax Advice

Robinhood does not provide tax advice. You should consult with a personal tax advisor for help with specific tax-related questions.

How To Find Account Number

Your account number can be found in the Tax Documents section of the Robinhood app.

Missing/Incorrect Cost Basis

In some occasions, the cost basis generated on your 1099 might be incorrect. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as a corporate action, reverse stock split, or wash sale. If this happens to you, reach out to us at support@robinhood.com to request an Excel file of your entire trading history from which you can calculate your correct cost basis.
